When Can You See Naza in Theaters?

Soon you will be able to give Naza, the new documentary from No Other Land’s Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, a standing ovation of your very own. Abraham and Szor are self-distributing the film. It will open at the IFC on September 30 as part of the New York Film Festival, then expand to other key markets like Los Angeles October 9. From there, the team hopes to release nationwide. “Due to the urgency of the movie’s subject matter, the filmmakers are moving ahead with an innovative distribution model, spearheaded by The Guardian and mk2, who have assembled a team of U.S. and international partners and consultants to bring the film to audiences as quickly as possible,” producers said in a statement.

The documentary interviews 24 Israeli intelligence officers, military officers, and soldiers about how Israel uses targeted strikes in Gaza. Specifically, it looks at how un-targeted these strikes can be: “NAZA” is the military’s term for the number of civilians that may be killed as collateral damage. 

The film prompted strong reactions both for and against it. The Venice Film Festival gave the film a 25-minute standing ovation and awarded it the Special Jury Price. Meanwhile, Israel’s culture minister Miki Zohar threatened to strip the filmmakers of their citizenship. Abraham and Szor are half of the Palestinian-Israeli coalition of filmmakers who made No Other Land, which won Best Documentary Feature Film at the 2025 Academy Awards. That film had its own issues with distribution. It was in talks to be distributed by MUBI, before that company’s association with the Israeli military became news. “It made no sense to us that they would take our film showing Israel’s oppression of Palestinians, and then also partner with a company contributing to that oppression,” Abraham said at the time.
