HBO has officially issued a straight-to-series order for The Spread, a new drama series starring and executive produced by Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem. The project hails from writers and executive producers Bill Dubuque (Ozark) and Sean Sansiveri, with filmmaker Matthew Vaughn attached to direct and executive produce.

Co-produced by HBO and Fifth Season TV Studio alongside Makeready and Topic Studios, the series explores the high-stakes financial landscape of Miami as it transforms into “Wall Street South.” The narrative focuses on a visionary billionaire portrayed by Bardem who gathers ambitious, dangerous individuals to manipulate national markets and shift America’s economic epicenter to South Florida. The logline reads, “Miami is turning paradise into power — Wall Street South — a subtropical collision of industry titans, elite hedge funds, staggering wealth, ruthless competition, sex, nightlife and fun on an industrial scale. Into this sun-soaked arena comes a visionary billionaire (Bardem) who collects the brilliant, the hungry and the dangerous, then turns their ambitions loose on the markets that power America. He chases something bigger: the power to shift the center of economic gravity to Miami — and decide how long the party lasts.”

The drama marks a major milestone for Sansiveri as his first credited television writing role, while Vaughn steps in to direct following his work on high-profile film franchises. Executive producers for the project include Brad Weston for Makeready alongside Ian Stratford and Michael Bloom of Topic Studios.

HBO has not yet announced an official premiere date or additional casting details for The Spread.
