Art and antique fair TEFAF to remain in Maastricht for another 10 years

The art and antique fair TEFAF will remain in Maastricht for the next 10 years. TEFAF, the municipality of Maastricht, the exhibition center MECC Maastricht, and the province of Limburg have agreed to this, the province said on Tuesday evening.

TEFAF has been held in Maastricht since 1988. The province describes it as “an event of great importance to the profile of our province that demonstrably generates substantial economic benefits.” In 2025, the fair attracted more than 41,000 visitors from 75 countries. There were 275 international gallery owners.

The current agreement with TEFAF was set to expire at the end of the next edition next year. “Alongside our fair in New York, Maastricht remains the place where we introduce the world to the highest level of art, design and antiques,” TEFAF chairman Boris Vervoordt said in the press release. He said he was pleased that new long-term agreements had been reached.

According to the newly released TEFAF Economic Impact Report conducted by Deloitte, the fair generates a total economic impact of €86.4 million across the Netherlands. Out of that total, €37.9 million directly goes into the city of Maastricht alone, heavily boosting local hotels, restaurants, transportation companies, and specialized art infrastructure services.
