Dutch strawberry consumption hits record high in 2025 at 2.8 kilograms per person

The Netherlands recorded its highest-ever strawberry consumption in 2025, according to trade association GroentenFruit Huis. On average, Dutch residents ate 2.8 kilograms of strawberries per person, up from 2.5 kilograms five years ago. The total equaled nearly six standard punnets per person over the year.

Consumption remained strongly seasonal, with the bulk of demand concentrated in late spring and early summer. May and June accounted for 40 percent of all strawberries consumed in 2025, making those months the clear peak consumption period.

Younger consumers drove part of the increase. Shoppers under the age of 39 bought 6 percent more strawberries in 2025 compared with the previous year, according to the industry data cited by GroentenFruit Huis.

Supermarkets remained the dominant sales channel. More than 83 percent of all strawberries sold in 2025 were purchased from supermarkets. GroentenFruit Huis added that the figures reflect both rising overall demand and stable purchasing patterns.
