Osun: Adeleke approves health insurance scheme for monarchs, spouses

Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved the enrolment of traditional rulers across Osun State and their spouses into the State Health Insurance Scheme.

The Osun Health Insurance Agency disclosed this on Monday, saying arrangements had already commenced for the exercise.

Executive Secretary of OHIS, Rasaq Akindele, said the initiative reflected the administration’s commitment to accessible and affordable healthcare for residents across the state.

According to him, officials of the agency would begin visits to palaces of traditional rulers from Wednesday, May 20, 2026, for registration and enrolment.

He added that the exercise would run for two weeks.

Akindele said: “The present administration remains passionate about the health and well-being of the people, hence the decision to extend the benefits of the State Health Insurance Scheme to revered traditional institutions across the state.”

He explained that the agency had already put measures in place to ensure a smooth enrolment process.

He said: “The agency has already put the necessary machinery in motion to ensure a seamless enrollment exercise.”

The OHIS boss noted that the initiative was also aimed at recognising the role of traditional rulers in promoting peace and development across the state.

Akindele added: “The gesture is aimed at strengthening healthcare access for royal fathers and their spouses while appreciating their immense contributions towards peace, unity, and development in Osun State.”

He further assured residents that the agency would continue implementing people-focused health policies aimed at improving living standards and healthcare access across Osun State.
