Doctor suspended for being drunk on duty

A doctor at Government Thoothukudi Medical College and Hospital has been suspended from service for being under the influence of alcohol while on duty.

It is reported that the doctor, identified as Kannan, was intoxicated while attending patients in the Outpatient Department on Thursday morning. Witnessing this, a member of the public recorded a video and shared it on social media.

Subsequently, the hospital administration issued a notice to Dr. Kannan, seeking an explanation regarding the incident. An inquiry was also conducted.

Based on the findings of the inquiry, Director of Medical Education J. Sangumani issued the suspension order for Dr. Kannan on Friday, said Silas Jeyamani, Resident Medical Officer of the hospital.
