Police investigate why photo of Giorgos Mazonakis during clinic treatment was sent to hypnotherapist

Greek police are examining a photograph allegedly taken inside a private clinic during Giorgos Mazonakis’ final treatment and sent to a hypnotherapist, as investigators piece together the events leading up to the singer’s death.

The investigation is focusing on digital evidence from the plasmapheresis machine used during the treatment, the mobile phones of the two doctors under investigation and activity recorded during the crucial hours before emergency services were called.

According to Kathimerini, the investigating magistrate contacted the police department responsible for examining digital evidence to seek clarification about records from the machine while the husband and wife doctors were giving testimony.

Mazonakis died last week after suffering cardiac arrest while undergoing plasmapheresis at the couple’s private clinic in Kolonaki, central Athens.

What the machine records show

According to the report, the machine records indicate that treatment began at 2:14 pm, with pressure alarms recorded shortly afterwards.

Blood exchange began at approximately 2:37 pm, before the treatment was paused at 3:22 pm.

A further attempt to restart the blood exchange was recorded at 3:46 pm, but was unsuccessful. The machine reportedly shut down around 15 seconds later.

A blood return process was then recorded at 4:28 pm.

Investigators are now examining the sequence of events and what occurred between the interruption of treatment and the eventual emergency call.

Police examine photograph sent to hypnotherapist

One of the most unusual elements under investigation is a photograph allegedly taken by the female doctor at approximately 2:44 pm.

The photograph reportedly shows Mazonakis during the treatment and was subsequently sent to a hypnotherapist.

Authorities are seeking to establish why the photograph was taken, who it was sent to and under what circumstances it was transmitted.

The investigation is also examining the doctors’ mobile phones, which reportedly remained locked for extended periods during the critical hours.

Conflicting accounts over when Mazonakis arrived

Investigators are also examining conflicting accounts concerning the singer’s arrival at the clinic.

According to the report, one clinic employee placed his arrival at approximately 3:30 pm.

His taxi driver, however, reportedly told investigators that he dropped Mazonakis off between 1:50 pm and 1:59 pm.

Investigators are also examining claims made by one of the accused doctors that another person was present inside the clinic at the relevant time. Employees reportedly did not mention seeing another person.

The critical gap before the emergency call

The emergency call was reportedly made at 4:23 pm, around one hour after the treatment had stopped.

Police are examining what happened during this period.

Investigators are also looking into alleged searches made on a computer for information about reviving a person suffering cardiac arrest.

Another point under scrutiny is a medical referral issued by the male doctor.

He reportedly said he issued the referral at 4:06 pm, requesting an intestinal endoscopy and an upper digestive endoscopy.

Investigators are seeking to establish whether the referral was actually issued by the doctor himself or by another person who had access to the clinic’s system.

Doctors deny homicide charges

The two doctors deny charges of homicide with possible intent by omission.

Their lawyers said on Tuesday that the upgraded charges were “completely unjustified” and announced that they would immediately challenge the decision to place the couple in temporary detention.

The lawyers also alleged that their clients’ procedural rights had been seriously violated.

The investigation remains ongoing, with police and judicial authorities examining the digital records, witness statements, medical documentation and communications surrounding Mazonakis’ final hours.
