Woman killed, four injured in collision between passenger vehicle and sand truck in Kalaw

A woman was killed and four other people were injured after a passenger vehicle collided with a sand truck in Kalaw on the night of May 7, according to the Kalaw Red Cross Society.

The accident occurred at about 8:40 pm. on the Union Highway near Inn Pyin Village in Kalaw Township, southern Shan State.

A Mini Bus passenger vehicle traveling toward Aungban had stopped to drop off passengers in front of Infantry Battalion No. 112 in Inn Pyin Village when a sand truck traveling in the same direction crashed into the rear of the vehicle, sources said.

As a result of the collision, a 29-year-old woman traveling on the passenger vehicle died at the scene, while one man and three women sustained injuries. The injured victims were transported to Kalaw Public Hospital for medical treatment, according to the Kalaw Township Red Cross Society.

Authorities have opened a case against the sand truck driver at Kalaw Myoma Police Station under Sections 279, 337, 338, and 304(a) of the Penal Code for allegedly reckless driving.
