A total of 112 Myanmar nationals who had completed prison sentences in Thailand were repatriated from Ranong and arrived in Kawthaung, southern Myanmar, on July 7, according to local authorities.

The returnees, comprising 87 men and 25 women, had been detained at the Immigration Detention Center (IDC) in Ranong after serving their sentences. They were transferred to Myanmar via eight motorboats under the supervision of Myanmar Labour Attaché U Aung Soe Than, based in Ranong.

Officials from the Kawthaung Township Administration, the Anti-Human Trafficking Police Unit, and other district and township authorities received the group at Shwe Wet Wun Bridge in Kawthaung.

The returnees were then transported to the Nawarat Sports Hall, where they underwent COVID-19 and other communicable disease screenings. Authorities also collected personal information and conducted security checks to determine whether any individuals were linked to terrorism, the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), blacklists, human trafficking cases, trafficking victims, or outstanding criminal warrants.

Those who had never been registered with Myanmar’s immigration authorities were issued National Verification Cards (NVCs) and smart ID cards. After completing the necessary procedures, the returnees were transported to their respective hometowns.
