The new government will consider granting amnesty to promote social justice, national reconciliation, peace, and the country’s development, President U Min Aung Hlaing said.

He made the remarks in his inaugural address after taking the oath of office at the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw on April 10.

“Our government will consider granting amnesty to support social justice, reconciliation, peace, and national development,” the President said.

He added that the government will adopt a balanced approach to international relations, while working to restore normal ties with ASEAN as a member state. Myanmar will also cooperate with neighboring countries and regional partners across political, economic, and social sectors, and strengthen international relations in line with the five principles of peaceful coexistence.

The President also emphasized the importance of judicial integrity, stating that efforts will be made to ensure equal protection under the law, prevent wrongful convictions, and guarantee that crimes and punishments are handled fairly, accurately, and swiftly.

“The rule of law is the fundamental foundation for the stability and development of a nation,” he said.

On the peace process, the President noted that Parts (1), (2), and (3) of the Union Accord signed under the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) at the Union Peace Conference will be submitted to the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw for discussion and approval.

He further stated that the government will effectively implement federal provisions enshrined in the 2008 Constitution, stressing that peace is essential for building a democratic federal union. He called on political parties, ethnic groups, and organizations to work together toward this goal.

In addition, the President said priority will be given to poverty reduction and the development of the agricultural sector, particularly for farmers.

Following the oath-taking ceremony, President U Min Aung Hlaing reiterated his commitment to achieving stability and development. When asked about priorities for the first 100 days, he said peace, stability, and development would be the government’s primary focus.

“I urge the entire nation to live and work in unity and harmony,” he added.

The President, Vice Presidents U Nyo Saw and Daw Nan Ni Ni Aye, Union Ministers, and officials from Union-level organizations took the oath of office together at the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw.
