Bangladeshi Prisoner Dies While Receiving Treatment at Mawlamyine General Hospital

The deceased was identified as 21-year-old Bangladeshi national Mohammad Shoaib, who had been serving a sentence at Mawlamyine Prison (Min Ywa). According to reports, he had been admitted to the male GUARD WARD at Mawlamyine General Hospital at around 1 a.m. on May 16 after suffering from abdominal pain, anemia, and a heart-related condition. He later died from those illnesses at approximately 6:15 p.m. on May 17 while undergoing treatment.
“A Bangladeshi prisoner reportedly died due to his medical condition. Relevant authorities have informed the Bangladeshi embassy regarding the incident,” a source close to the security forces said.
It is also reported that Myaing Tharyar Area Police Station has opened a death investigation case numbered (2/2026) and is conducting inquiries to determine whether the death occurred of natural causes in accordance with legal procedures.
