Southwest Monsoon to Withdraw from Delta, Southern Myanmar

Myanmar’s southwest monsoon is expected to withdraw from the delta region between October 1 and 5, and from southern Myanmar between October 6 and 10, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

A low-pressure area is likely to form over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal during the first 10 days of October and could strengthen into a depression.

The monsoon is expected to remain weak over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal, with moderate to cloudy conditions forecast over the Andaman Sea and southern Bay of Bengal.

Rainfall is expected to be above normal in Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay Region, Magway Region, Sagaing Region, Kachin State, Chin State and Shan State, while rainfall is expected to be below normal in Yangon Region and Ayeyarwady Region, and moderate to heavy rain with isolated thunderstorms in Bago Region, Tanintharyi Region, Kayah State, Kayin State, Mon State and Rakhine State.

Rainfall is expected to be expected in Magway Region, Sagaing Region, Tanintharyi Region, Kayah State, Chin State, Mon State and Rakhine State for 7 to 9 days, and in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon Region, Mandalay Region, Bago Region, Ayeyarwady Region, Kachin State, Kayah State and Shan State for 4 to 6 days.

Daytime temperatures are expected to be above normal in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon Region, Mandalay Region, Bago Region, Magway Region, Lower Sagaing Region and Ayeyarwady Region may experience temperatures that are 1.5 degrees Celsius above the average for October, while upper Sagaing Region, Tanintharyi Region, Kachin State, Kayah State, Kayin State, Chin State, Mon State, Rakhine State and Shan State may experience temperatures that are around the average for October.

Night temperatures in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon Region, Mandalay Region, Bago Region, Magway Region, Sagaing Region, Ayeyarwady Region, Tanintharyi Region, Kachin State, Kayah State, Kayin State, Chin State, Mon State, Rakhine State and Shan State may experience temperatures that are around the average for October.
