Low-Pressure Area Likely Over Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal in Late June

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) has forecast that a low-pressure area may develop once over the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal during the third 10-day period of June, with above-normal rainfall expected in some regions and states.

According to the weather outlook for the third 10-day period of June 2026, one low-pressure area is likely to form over the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal. The southwest monsoon is expected to remain moderate over both seas, while cloud cover is forecast to range from partly cloudy to mostly cloudy conditions.

Regarding rainfall, Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay Region, Magway Region, Sagaing Region, and Kachin State are expected to receive more rainfall than usual. Meanwhile, Yangon Region, Bago Region, Ayeyarwady Region, Tanintharyi Region, Kayah State, Kayin State, Chin State, Mon State, Rakhine State, and Shan State are likely to receive rainfall close to normal levels, accompanied by thunderstorms.

In terms of rainy days, Yangon Region, Bago Region, upper Sagaing Region, Ayeyarwady Region, Tanintharyi Region, Kachin State, Kayin State, Mon State, Rakhine State, and southern and eastern Shan State are expected to experience thunderstorms on approximately eight to ten days during the period.

Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay Region, Magway Region, lower Sagaing Region, Kayah State, Chin State, and northern Shan State are forecast to record thunderstorms on around six to eight days, according to the department.
