286 Chinese nationals repatriated as part of anti-scam operations in Myawaddy
· Eleven Media Group Co., LtdAs part of ongoing efforts to eradicate online scam operations, a total of 286 Chinese nationals detained at casinos and scam centers in the Myawaddy along the Myanmar–Thailand border were repatriated on the morning of January 22, according to sources.
The detainees were transported via the Myanmar–Thailand Friendship Bridge No-2 to Mae Sot International Airport, coordinated by authorities from Myanmar and Thailand in cooperation with the relevant foreign embassies.
The Chinese nationals were subsequently flown back to China on China Southern Airlines, officials said.
Earlier, on January 21, authorities also transferred 300 Chinese nationals and 91 Indonesian nationals, bringing the total to 391 people, from Myawaddy to Mae Sot International Airport via the same route. Those Chinese nationals were likewise repatriated to China on China Southern Airlines.
Similarly, on January 20, 299 Chinese nationals who had been detained by online scam operations in the Myawaddy area were transported via the Myawaddy–Mae Sot Friendship Bridge No. 2 to Mae Sot International Airport, from where Chinese authorities repatriated them to China on China Southern Airlines.
It is also reported that, as part of efforts to eradicate online scam operations in the Myawaddy region, more than 1,100 Chinese nationals will be transferred between January 20 and 23.
