The Ayeyawady (Yadanabon) Bridge, damaged by a powerful earthquake, has been repaired and cleared through load testing, allowing truck weight limits to increase from 25 to 45 tons.

On April 25, Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant, along with regional officials, inspected the completed reinforcement works and ongoing reconstruction of staff housing damaged by the quake in Mandalay and Sagaing.

Engineers reported that key structural components—including gusset plates, inclined members, and bearings—were damaged. The bridge initially reopened with a 15-ton limit, later raised to 25 tons after first-stage repairs in November 2025. Following second-stage upgrades and successful load testing, the limit has now been increased to 45 tons.

Officials said further work, including bearing replacements, will continue to restore the bridge’s original 60-ton capacity. The upgrade allows heavy cargo and fuel trucks to cross directly, reducing reliance on ferries, saving time and costs, and improving trade flow, while authorities stressed strict enforcement of safety regulations.
