Massive fish die-off reported at Mingala Shankan in Pyinmana amid extreme heat
· Eleven Media Group Co., LtdLarge numbers of protected fish have died in Mingala Shankan in Pyinmana due to extreme heat, according to the Moe Zaytana Charity Association.
The fish deaths reportedly began on the morning of May 7. Members of the charity group believe the deaths were caused by rising temperatures linked to the ongoing hot weather conditions.
“There could be tens of thousands of dead fish. Silver carp and tilapia are the most affected species. The heat has been extremely intense, so we believe the high temperature caused the deaths. There were not many dead fish in the morning, but the number increased significantly by the afternoon,” a representative from the Moe Zaytana Charity Association said.
Local residents said similar fish die-offs had also occurred in previous years during periods of extreme heat.
Authorities from the Pyinmana Municipal Committee are currently working together with the charity association to clean the lake and remove the dead fish.
“This morning, after receiving notification from the municipal authorities, our rescue boats were sent to clear the dead fish floating in the lake,” another official from the association said.
