Suspect arrested at Assen train station after he said he had placed a bomb on train
No trains ran for several hours overnight Friday into Saturday after a person said he had placed a bomb on the train, police reported. He was arrested at the Assen train station.
“A passenger on a train said a bomb had been placed,” a spokesperson for the Noord-Nederland police unit said. The suspect said he has planted the explosive himself.
Police indentified the suspect as a 24-year-old man with no fixed address. He is now in custody and is being questioned.
An explosives specialist searched the train. The station and nearby area were cordoned off.
No explosives were found, the spokesperson said shortly before 3 a.m. on Saturday.
