Dutch police seek to void around 100 fake tickets issued by fired officer

Police want around 100 traffic fines written by a dishonest officer to be withdrawn, NOS reported. Over four and a half years, an Oost-Nederland police officer had reportedly issued tickets without having observed a violation.

The officer was suspended in August 2024 and later fired on the spot. He is now scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) accuses the former officer of computer trespass, violating official secrecy, and committing perjury. He is not suspected of corruption, as he did not sell the information.

An investigation also found that the officer in question also accessed police computer systems thousands of times without any work-related reasons.

According to NOS, he shared the information he would find in the police system with friends and family. The newspaper also said that he looked up the private information because of undisclosed personal events.
