Police have searched the Athens home of late Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis as part of the investigation into his death during a medical procedure last month.
Officers entered the property accompanied by Mazonakis’ mother and a prosecutor, with the search focused on digital evidence that could assist investigators examining the circumstances surrounding his death.
The search comes after a judicial council ruled earlier this week that Mazonakis’ mobile phone and other digital devices could be examined as part of the investigation. The ruling also covers devices belonging to the two doctors facing charges in the case and three other people connected to the investigation.
Mazonakis, 54, died on September 9 after suffering cardiac arrest while undergoing plasmapheresis at a private clinic in Athens.
Plasmapheresis involves removing blood plasma, filtering it and returning the blood components to the patient.
The clinic promoted longevity and anti-ageing treatments. Authorities are investigating allegations that the facility was not licensed or appropriately equipped to perform the procedure, which is generally carried out in fully equipped hospital settings.
The two doctors facing the homicide charges deny wrongdoing.
Investigators are examining digital material and other evidence as they seek to establish what happened before, during and after the procedure that preceded Mazonakis’ death.
