Yangon-Mandalay expressway toll gates upgraded with technology-based fee collection systems

Technology-based road toll collection systems have been implemented at toll gates along the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway, according to reports.

On May 27, Deputy Minister for Construction U Myo Myint visited toll gates along the Nay Pyi Taw–Yangon section of the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway to inspect the road toll collection systems and related technological operations.

During the inspection, the deputy minister reviewed the use of telematic systems installed in designated cargo trucks and express passenger buses permitted to travel on the expressway. He also checked safety measures and the weighing of vehicles at toll gate weighbridges to ensure that vehicles were not exceeding the prescribed weight limits.

In addition, he inspected the daily toll revenue collection procedures, ensuring that records were systematically maintained in accordance with regulations, as well as the cleanliness and maintenance of toll gate buildings and surrounding areas.

The deputy minister later visited the construction site of the new Swa Creek Bridge on the return lane between mileposts 165/1 and 165/3 on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway. He reviewed the demolition of the old bridge and the ongoing preparations for construction of the new bridge.

He also inspected toll collection operations and traffic conditions at the 115-Mile (Phyu) Toll Gate and Toll Gate No. 3, including vehicle weighing procedures carried out at the toll gate weighbridges, according to reports.
