Mahindra Thar 3-door facelift to launch in late September with Roxx cues

Mahindra is set to launch the facelifted Thar 3-door in late September, bringing Roxx-inspired styling updates while retaining its existing engine and gearbox options.

A month ago, we reported that Mahindra will soon launch the facelifted Thar 3-door, with the lifestyle SUV set to receive a second round of updates after its October 2025 refresh. We can now confirm that the updated Mahindra Thar 3-door is expected to launch in late September, with the facelift bringing several design changes inspired by the larger Thar Roxx.

The upcoming update is primarily focused on styling, with the mechanical package expected to remain unchanged. Mahindra has been testing the refreshed three-door Thar on public roads, with recent prototypes revealing a more Roxx-inspired front-end and other visual changes.

Thar to get a Roxx-inspired makeover

The biggest changes will be concentrated at the front. The facelifted Thar is expected to get circular LED headlamps positioned flush with the grille, rather than the recessed units seen on the current model. These are likely to be paired with C-shaped LED daytime running lights, giving the three-door SUV a closer visual connection to the Thar Roxx.

The six-slot grille is also expected to get a new two-piece design, while the front bumper and turn indicators will receive subtle revisions. The changes should give the Thar a more contemporary appearance and bring its design closer to its five-door sibling.

The current Thar, meanwhile, continues to feature halogen headlamps with separate LED DRLs.

New alloy wheels and revised tail-lamps

The changes will extend to the sides and rear, although they are expected to be more subtle. Test mules have been spotted with a new alloy wheel design that appears similar to the units offered on the Thar Roxx.

At the rear, the vertically stacked LED tail-lamps are expected to get revised internal graphics, again drawing inspiration from the five-door SUV. Mahindra could also introduce new exterior colour options with the facelift.

No major mechanical changes expected

The facelifted Thar 3-door is not expected to receive any significant mechanical updates. It should continue with the existing three-engine lineup, comprising a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, a 2.2-litre diesel and a 1.5-litre diesel.

The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol produces 152bhp and 300Nm, while the 2.2-litre diesel develops 132bhp and 300Nm. The 1.5-litre diesel makes 119bhp and 300Nm.

A six-speed manual gearbox is expected to remain available across the range, while the six-speed automatic will continue to be offered with the 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines.

Four-wheel drive is likely to remain available with the 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines in both manual and automatic configurations. The turbo-petrol automatic should also continue to be offered with rear-wheel drive.

Mahindra Thar facelift launch in late September

The Thar 3-door was already updated in October 2025, but Mahindra appears keen to give the SUV another visual refresh, particularly to bring it closer to the Thar Roxx in terms of design and equipment.

The use of Roxx-inspired components could also help Mahindra streamline production by increasing parts commonality between the two SUVs. With testing already underway, the facelifted Mahindra Thar 3-door is expected to make its India debut in late September.
