2027 Toyota Fortuner Spied With Prod Spec Tail Light – Launch Next Year

Fresh spy shots from Thailand show the upcoming Fortuner under heavy camouflage, as new rivals raise expectations for its next update

The new-generation Toyota Fortuner has been spied testing again in Thailand, offering another look at its heavily camouflaged rear. Both the front and rear were previously spied in February, and the latest sighting shows testing continuing ahead of an expected India launch in 2027. Toyota has yet to announce the debut schedule.

New Fortuner Rear Remains Heavily Disguised

Compared to the earlier rear spy shot, which had a round exposed rear lamp element, the latest test vehicle shows different partially visible lighting sections at the outer edges. These look like production spec tail light design, unlike the temp taillights of earlier spy shots. However, extensive camouflage continues to conceal the complete lamp assemblies, tailgate detailing and bumper design.

The rear bumper and much of the tailgate remain concealed, while a shark-fin antenna is visible above the roof. At this stage, the image reveals more about the SUV’s overall stance than its finer styling details.

Front spy shots showed slimmer upper lighting elements, a larger grille and a more sculpted fascia. Apparent radar and windscreen-mounted camera hardware also suggested that driver-assistance technology was being evaluated.

New Hilux Offers Clues To Cabin And Engines

The latest Hilux provides a useful reference for what Toyota could bring to the next Fortuner. India received the ninth-generation pickup in July, with prices ranging from Rs 31.99 lakh to Rs 36.69 lakh, alongside a redesigned exterior and cabin.

The Fortuner is expected to adopt a similar approach, combining updated styling and interiors with familiar mechanicals. The 2.8-litre diesel remains a likely option, while the final petrol, diesel and electrified lineup for India is yet to be confirmed.

More Convenience Features Expected

As a family-oriented SUV, the next Fortuner could receive a more extensive comfort and convenience package than the India-spec Hilux. A larger infotainment system, improved audio, a digital instrument display and additional connected features would help modernise the cabin. A sunroof and ADAS could also be offered, but neither is confirmed for India.

The Hilux launch provides a reason to keep those expectations measured. Despite the equipment available internationally, the Indian pickup missed out on features such as ADAS, dual-zone climate control, rear AC vents and the larger 12.3-inch instrument cluster.

Fortuner Still Leads, But Competition Is Growing

Fortuner remains comfortably ahead in sales. It recorded 3,504 units in August 2026, growing 39.71% year-on-year and 9.88% over July. MG Majestor, meanwhile, registered around 600 units last month, while the recently launched Kia Sorento is only beginning its market journey.

Those figures show that Fortuner continues to command strong demand. However, newer rivals are raising the benchmark for cabin technology and convenience, potentially attracting buyers who place greater emphasis on equipment.

The next-generation update gives Toyota an opportunity to address that gap while retaining the strengths behind Fortuner’s popularity. A more modern cabin and broader feature package would help it defend its position as competition builds, even if the engine lineup remains familiar.
