Bajaj’s total September sales rose 5% to 5.38 lakh units, supported by exports, but weaker domestic two-wheeler volumes weighed on the performance

Bajaj Auto reported total sales of 5,38,443 units in September 2026, up approximately 5% from 5,10,504 units a year earlier. Stronger exports helped offset a decline in domestic volumes, while commercial vehicles registered growth across both markets.

However, the sales announcement was followed by a sharp fall in Bajaj Auto’s share price. The stock was down 9% at Rs 9,900, making it the biggest loser on the Nifty 50 this morning. Market reports said September sales had fallen short of estimates.

Domestic Two-Wheeler Sales Decline 12%

Bajaj’s domestic two-wheeler sales fell to 2,39,771 units, compared with 2,73,188 units in September 2025. This represents a reduction of 33,417 units, or approximately 12%. This has come as a surprise as Bajaj had launched multiple new Pulsar motorcycles last month.

Exports provided the counterbalance, with two-wheeler shipments increasing 34% to 2,11,723 units from 1,57,665 units. The additional 54,058 export units more than compensated for the domestic decline. Total two-wheeler sales consequently increased 5% to 4,51,494 units, against 4,30,853 units a year earlier.

Commercial Vehicles Support Overall Growth

Commercial vehicle sales reached 86,949 units, up 9% from 79,651 units in September 2025. Domestic volumes increased 5% to 54,685 units, while exports grew 17% to 32,264 units. Across two-wheelers and commercial vehicles, Bajaj’s domestic sales declined 9% to 2,94,456 units. Combined exports rose 32% to 2,43,987 units, keeping overall sales growth positive.

The contrast was significant: exports added 58,735 units over September 2025, while domestic volumes fell by 30,796 units. Bajaj’s monthly growth was therefore driven by overseas markets.

FY First-Half Sales Grow 24%

Despite September’s domestic two-wheeler decline, Bajaj’s April–September 2026 performance remained positive. Total sales reached 29,87,135 units, increasing 24% from 24,05,357 units in the corresponding period last year.

Domestic volumes grew 7% to 14,76,434 units, while exports increased 47% to 15,10,701 units. Overseas sales accounted for just over half of total volumes and approximately 83% of the six-month volume gain. Two-wheeler sales rose 24% to 25,06,513 units, comprising 11,93,963 domestic units and 13,12,550 exports. Commercial vehicle volumes also increased 24% to 4,80,622 units.

The first-half figures show growth across both businesses, with exports providing the strongest contribution. Domestic two-wheeler performance during the festive period will now be an important measure of whether Bajaj can build on that momentum.
