2027 Tata Nexon Spied Again – Boxier Design, New Rear Profile

Tata Motors has stepped up testing of 2027 Nexon, with multiple heavily camouflaged prototypes now spotted together on public roads. Earlier test mules had already revealed major changes to the SUV’s proportions and provided an early look at its cabin. The latest spy shots give us a clearer view of the exterior profile, particularly the redesigned rear section.

Current Nexon has evolved through multiple updates since the original model arrived in 2017. While styling and equipment have changed substantially over the years, its basic silhouette has remained familiar. Next-gen Nexon appears to be taking a bigger step forward, with Tata working on noticeable changes to the vehicle’s proportions and body structure.

Next Gen Nexon Gets Boxier

Despite the extensive camouflage, one of the biggest changes visible on the new Nexon is its more upright and squared-off appearance. The roofline appears noticeably flatter than current Nexon, while the rear section is less coupe-like. This could help Tata improve rear-seat headroom and overall cabin space. The side profile also reveals a more conventional SUV-like shape. Wheel arches remain prominent, while the doors and glasshouse appear to have been redesigned.

New Rear Design Takes Shape

Latest images provide the clearest look yet at the rear of next-gen Nexon. Tail lamps appear to be positioned high on either side, with small illuminated sections visible through the camouflage. Tailgate itself looks considerably more upright than current Nexon. Rear windscreen is relatively large and gets a conventional rear wiper mounted at the top.

A roof spoiler can also be seen, while the rear bumper remains completely concealed. The more vertical tailgate and straighter roofline should also benefit luggage capacity. Current Nexon’s heavily sculpted rear design is likely to make way for a cleaner and more upright treatment on the new generation.

Fuel Filler Position Reveals Another Major Change

Another interesting detail visible in the latest spy shots is the repositioned fuel filler cap. On current Nexon, the fuel filler is positioned noticeably below the door handles. On next-gen Nexon, it has moved higher up the rear quarter panel and now sits almost in line with the door handles.

While seemingly a small change, relocating the fuel filler opening suggests changes beneath the bodywork as well. Along with the new roofline, more upright rear profile and altered body proportions, this further indicates that Tata is undertaking a more substantial redesign rather than another conventional facelift.

Interior And Powertrain

Previous spy shots had provided an early glimpse inside next-gen Nexon. That particular prototype retained several components from current Nexon, including its steering wheel, infotainment screen and climate controls. However, the cabin was partially dismantled and featured extensive testing equipment, suggesting those components could simply be development parts rather than the final interior.

A more substantial cabin redesign is expected as the vehicle moves closer to production. Tata could also bring some features from its newer models to Nexon, although the exact equipment list remains unknown at this stage.

On the powertrain front, Tata’s existing 1.2-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines are expected to continue in some form. CNG is also likely to remain part of the lineup. Nexon EV should eventually receive the new-generation treatment as well. Launch is expected sometime in 2027.
