Gigamon Announces New Solution

by · SCOOP

The spread of enterprise AI across cloud services and private infrastructure is creating a more complicated task for IT teams: understanding how applications, models and AI agents interact across environments.

Gigamon is targeting that challenge with a new GigaSMART network appliance and enhancements to its Application Metadata Intelligence (AMI) software, extending the company’s Deep Observability Pipeline.

The GigaVUE-GSA110 appliance adds processing capacity alongside existing Gigamon visibility infrastructure. It supports AMI processing across up to 400 Gbps of network traffic and optimised packet processing for up to 800 Gbps in a compact 1RU unit.

The announcement reflects the operational demands of hybrid AI, where organisations use a combination of frontier, open-weight, specialised and private models across public cloud, private cloud and on-premises infrastructure.

These choices allow organisations to match individual workloads with their performance, cost, security and data requirements. They also create more connections and dependencies for network and security teams to monitor.

Knowing where a model is hosted provides only part of the operational picture. Teams also need to understand which applications and services communicate with it, how those relationships change, and whether activity involves approved or unapproved AI tools.

Gigamon says its Deep Observability Pipeline transforms network traffic into telemetry that provides an independent view of activity across hybrid cloud infrastructure.

AMI adds application and protocol context, including application identity, relationships, dependencies, protocol behaviour and certificate activity. Its AI application visibility capabilities help identify and classify generative AI and large language model traffic, including shadow AI.

“Hybrid AI and agentic workflows will fundamentally change how enterprises operate and secure increasingly distributed infrastructure,” said Gareth Maclachlan, chief operating officer at Gigamon.

“As network and security operations become more AI-enabled, they need consistent, trusted network context to analyze activity and make informed decisions.”

The new appliance’s disaggregated architecture enables organisations to add dedicated GigaSMART processing alongside existing GigaVUE TA Series and HC Series deployments, scaling capacity where it is needed.

The architecture supports two types of downstream delivery: optimised packet traffic for packet-based tools, and application metadata for security, observability, data and AI platforms.

Telemetry can be delivered through formats including JSON, CEF and IPFIX, with native JSON export and support for delivery to Kafka and existing workflows.

Gigamon has also changed how it handles HTTPS metadata, combining two records into one unified record. According to the company, this reduces metadata records for those flows by approximately 50 per cent while retaining application context.

The GigaVUE-GSA110 and new AMI enhancements are available now.
