Podcast: Bomb found in car and Dior comes to Dublin

The discovery of a bomb in a car being driven across the border to Northern Ireland has been described as "extremely significant" by Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly.

Gardaí made the discovery after stopping a car on the N2 near Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan on Wednesday with the incident being made public on Friday.

A woman aged in her 20s and a man in his 40s have been arrested.

Dior coming to Dublin

Derry-born designer Jonathan Anderson has been making headlines this week as he is to bring Dior's Autumn Winter 2027 runway show to Dublin.

Mr Anderson, who is the Creative Director for the French fashion house, revealed the show will take place in December at Trinity College Dublin’s Old Library.

It will be the house's first ever runway show in Ireland and a first for Trinity's Old Library.

Fashion historian Laura Fitzachary explains the significance of the announcement.

"Dior bringing a show this big to Dublin, and us being able to put it on - and also in such an important building to Dublin - is just such a way of showing just the cultural relevance of how fashion can be something that needs to be celebrated," she said.

'Global news’

Ms Fitzachary said bringing the show to Ireland has also made headlines around the world.

"I’ve seen the headline in so many different languages because this is global news," she said.

"Dior is a luxury house that commands so much reverence across the board in the fashion community.

"For them to put all their eyes on to Ireland will be so brilliant for us."

Ms Fitzachary suggested Dublin may now have to be included on a list of fashion cities "on tote bags" - alongside New York, London, Paris and Milan.
