A Bikini Coffee Stand Is Opening on Zaragoza

· NewsTalk 1290

A new espresso stand is coming to the east side, and it's already stirring up conversation before it even opens.

Beankini Espresso 915 is set to open later this month at 1346 N. Zaragoza Road. If you're not familiar, the concept is pretty straightforward: drive-thru coffee stand, specialty espresso drinks, baristas in bikinis. It's a model that started in the Pacific Northwest in the early 2000s and has been spreading across the country ever since.

El Paso Has Actually Done This Before

Before anyone acts like this is brand new territory, El Paso already had a bikini coffee spot. The Bikini Coffee ran out of a location on Montwood for several years before eventually closing. The concept isn't a total stranger to the Sun City, it just hasn't had a presence here in a while.

Why It Divides El Pasoans

Ask around and you'll get wildly different reactions. Some see it as a harmless novelty, a drive-thru with a gimmick. The baristas are adults who choose to work there, the coffee is real, and the transaction is legal. Others aren't so enthusiastic, arguing the model objectifies women or doesn't fit the vibe of a family-oriented city like El Paso. Both takes are out there and neither is going away.

One thing worth mentioning honestly: bikini barista stands across the country have a documented history of attracting customers who think the concept is an invitation to act inappropriately. It isn't. The people working there are doing a job and deserve to be treated accordingly.

The Hours Are Actually a Nice Surprise

Beankini 915 will run 7am to 7pm daily. Most El Paso coffee spots close around 4 or 5, which is rough for a college town. It's not late-night library hours, but it's more than most spots around here offer.

Beankini Espresso 915 opens later this month at 1346 N. Zaragoza Road. If you stop by, tip your barista.
